Kannel Hall

For the first two weeks, most of training is classroom work. The classes are generally taught by your drill sergeants, though others may occasionally be called in to speak on a specialized topic. One of the first things learned is the value of staying awake. This can be extremely difficult to do, though fortunately the remedy for sleepiness in class is simple- "detox". This involves some reinvigorating, mind revitalizing PT (physical training) at the back of the classroom. Once fully renewed, you are free to return to your seat to join the rest of the eager, learning privates.

Class topics are diverse, from equal opportunity to cleaning the M16A2 rifle, from map reading to the proper way to wear a gas mask. You will be amazed, in fact, by how much you never knew about the Army. Each day brings new knowledge and skills, along with a growing sense of accomplishment. You are listening and taking notes, paying attention and staying awake- you are becoming a true soldier. Yeah right- you are in reality probably falling asleep like the rest of the privates.
