Night Fire Range 22
One of the coolest things in basic training is night fire. Here, you practice so-called "suppressive fire" (firing as much as possible downrange to discourage enemy counterattacks) during the day. When night arrives, you apply this same suppressive fire, but you are firing "tracer rounds" (emit red light). In addition, "star cluster" rockets are being shot off, which illuminate the entire area. The end result? Lots of noise, streaks of lights, brightness, and excitement. More exciting than downtown on Saturday night, it's really fun, and will definitely be a memory for years to come. Besides, you get to stay out past your "bedtime"... what more could you want?
